Salutations frens,
What you are about to read is an amalgamation of content all primed and ready to be devoured — by those who are hungry for the MixMob vision to create, rebuild, and remix culture — so, feast your eyes on this month's magazine as it features everything you need to know about Closed-Alpha and even more than what one can imagine about our MixMob universe. :)
This month has been a wild ride from the game development side of things; while still supporting a somber situation in Ukraine and also hustling to deliver our first public game milestone. This Subdomain edition has left us feeling like we are walking on a tight rope high above the Solana network.
We are making decisions differently by fully integrating and embracing the community — showing you how things unfold in game-making and team building. This is how crypto video games are made and we want you to feel like you are part of our team. This community — all of us in Discord and beyond — continue to make this team fierce and give it life. We feel confident because together we are transforming *MixMob: Uprising* from its raw bare-bones. Look out everybody, we are becoming a cultural legend that is as strong Goliath!
Cheers,
Carina Kom, Game Director
Change is in the air, the Alpha Bots are zooming, and despite the Subdomain's best efforts to break Solana, the Masks flew off the shelves on Magic Eden this month in preparation for the MixMob: Uprising Closed Alpha! Let's take a look at some of the most sought-after Mask traits this spring (or autumn, depending on where in the Subdomain you are).
While the initial phase of the MixMob:
Uprising Alpha has come to an end, in the
battle against A-1, this is just the beginning.
As the game levels up in its next stages, so
will the speed and agility of the Phantom Bot.
We asked our resident master gamer, Akira (who
also happens to be our Discord Designer and
Marketing Coordinator), to share his card
strategy tips for taking down the Phantom Bot.
Here's what he had to say:
01
At the beginning of the game, try to get as much of an advantage as possible. Remember, you always start with 2 mana, so if you get a Speed or Speed + card, use it to outrun the Phantom Bot.
02
Upon losing all health, you are immobilized for a few seconds. This applies to both you and the Phantom Bot, so use this to your advantage to disable it. Your life is important, so don't forget to always have a full life bar to avoid falling behind it the race. Use the First Aid Kit and Band-Aid cards to do this.
03
Are you in the lead and have mana to spare? Use it to buy shields - better safe than sorry.
04
Imagine this situation: both you and your opponent have low health. The Phantom Bot is in front of you; you can throw a Flashbang card to stop it or take a First Aid Kit card to heal yourself - what would you do? I recommend using the First Aid Kit - it is better to continue in the race than to be stalled from losing your life.
05
React fast - attack animations appear on the track before applying damage, which gives you the necessary time to use a shield.
06
Last but not least, have fun and enjoy! Keep these tips on hand, as your next chance to defeat the Phantom Bot may be sooner than you think. Finally, remember to send us your feedback to help us improve the game. Good luck!
This month's MVP is a very special resistance member whose positivity and enthusiasm reach even the darkest corners of the Subdomain. He's an OG contributor to our Theories channel and was the first Subdomain member to be offered a Stealth Drop Theorist Role. He values community above everything and has one of the most unique gaming handles we've come across. Ladies, gentlemen, and everyone in between, ItsBeefBasted!
Q1:
As an avid contributor to our Discord Theories channel, you’ve been on our radar for quite some time, but it’s not just your active involvement in the community that’s made you a stand-out member of the Subdomain — we have to ask to satisfy our curiosity, how did you come up with the handle ItsBeefBasted?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A1:
Well it's a silly story that all came together very fast. Years ago me and a roommate were walking around a local Superstore two days before Christmas at 3am on a Saturday night. I was very sleep deprived and extremely tired but needed to grab some last minute gifts. I cut through the pet aisle and saw a box of dog bones that were Beef Basted flavored. At the time one of my friends had a dog that I loved, his name was Jake. Jake loved treats and I found the Beef Basted flavoring to be hysterical. I said that would be a good handle for a gamertag or something. I got home and created that gamertag. BeefBasted has been a part of me ever since. When I jump in a friend's stream they always yell Beef with excitement. I enjoy that people get a kick out of the name.
Q2:
Well that’s our new favorite Christmas story — thank you for sharing; we love it. What aspects of culture are you most interested in, and how do you hope to see them integrated and explored in the MixMob universe?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A2:
There are so many aspects of our culture that I could choose. The first would be video game/online culture. Without gaming and online interactions, I would not have the chance to meet as many amazing people as I have. My close gaming/online friends I have started to make a point to meet in real life. Last year I took a one-day trip, ten-hour drive, to meet a friend for the first time. This year I will be surprising another for his 40th birthday. His wife asked if I could make it so I had to say yes. The online video game aspect is already being incorporated into MixMob and I can't wait to give as much feedback to the team as possible during the Alpha phase.
Second would be music culture. My first cassette was given to me when I was five by my uncle and it was Black Sabbath’s *Paranoid*. My dad was always into Doo-Wop and my mom loved the Blues. My musical taste is all over [the place] as I've grown older. Music in MixMob is very important. There was a virtual concert with Sickkick last year. Every story needs a soundtrack and I can't wait to hear what the team has cooked up.
Q3:
Community is a big part of the MixMob vision and story. How did you find your way to the Subdomain, and what does being a part of the community mean to you thus far in the journey?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A3:
I found my way to the Subdomain by IcemanCrypto back in November 2021. I 100% would not have had this opportunity to be MVP without that man. When I think of community I think of love first. The amount of love that has been shown not just to me but to everyone has been amazing to see. I am forever grateful to get to know so many amazing people who are from all over the globe; without this community, I may have never had a chance to interact with them. The team having faith to allow their community to interact and help create the ever-evolving story of MixMob is quite awesome. It opens up ideas that may have never been thought of with just the core team.
Q4:
That’s the truth, and one of the many reasons why we place so much importance on including the community! Speaking of the community, you are quite the theorist. We are very curious about any developing theories you are working on at the moment. Anything you can share?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A4:
It's very hard for me to focus on one theory at a time. I had that theory of the C-bot's having an alternate way of recharging if they were out of range of a wireless charging range and that was with organic material based on current technology. I've been bouncing around in my own head that electronics can't function 100% on their own. Meaning there needs to be some kind of puppet master behind the scenes making sure A-1 is doing its job properly. If there isn't, we are in some trouble.
I feel there is a way that we could use C-bots to our advantage to gather closer intel on the other larger A.I. bots out there. But that would require at least a dozen captured C-bots (which is a herculean task). The reason is, I'd guess there is one part inside the C-bot that actually controls the enslaving of a human. If there was a way to isolate that one part and be able to stop that function while having the rest of the processors and wireless devices still function 100%, we could, in theory, Sean of the Dead pretend zombie walk our way around I'd recon at least for a little bit. These ideas keep branching all the time and bring me in thousands of directions. I hope that answers this question haha.
Q5:
That is very insightful and thought provoking...we will be sure to discuss it with our frens at Subworks Lab. Now for the question we always look forward to: you only had time to snatch 3 remnants of culture from The Surface before it was deleted — what did you take with you?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A5:
The first would be a drawing my father did. Just so I have something to look at to transport me to a different location when I need an escape.
Second, I would hope there is a CD player of any type around because I am grabbing Sam Kinison’s *Louder Than Hell* album. It would be the only comedy recording I would have in reach. Or if there is a DVD player it would be Spaceballs. Laughing is so important in my life and those always get me cracking up.
Lastly, Terence McKenna's Book *Food of the Gods*. I have yet to read it but it's on my computer desk. He is an interesting man who wrote about culture, technology, philosophy and is most known for his work in psychedelic drugs. I have only one experience in the last part of that and that was at a very young age but have been fascinated ever since.
Q6:
All great choices. Finally, what aspects of our culture would you like to leave in the past?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A6:
This is a powerful question to ask. I only have one answer, Hate Culture. Love Culture needs to make an uprising. Last year, before I dove into crypto/NFTs I wasn't a happy person mentally. Somewhere along the line I was making connections and being shown love by strangers. It was a new kind of love that was anonymous and it became my favorite love to pass onto others. Kindness is love and without it culture falls apart. I encourage everyone to go make a stranger smile and to watch the joy and love that flows over their face as the corners of their mouth raise, it's one of the most beautiful things in the world.
